10 Years of The Cuban Arts Group: Voices from Artists, Curators, and Collaborators

Hola a todo el equipo de The Cuban Arts Group (TCAG), felices 10 años de trayectoria. Muchas gracias por el valioso trabajo que llevan impulsando durante esta década. Deseo que continúen muchos años más dando visibilidad y acompañando al arte y a los artistas cubanos tanto dentro como fuera de la isla. Creo que el trabajo que ustedes hacen es realmente fundamental para el desarrollo de muchísimas carreras.

En mi caso he tenido la suerte y el honor de colaborar con ustedes en varios proyectos, entre ellos, la organización y presentación del libro “Hybrid of a Chrysler. A Provocation to Fly” del artista cubano Esterio Segura que presentamos en La Fábrica, en Madrid, en el año 2022, junto a los increíbles profesionales Suset Sánchez, René Francisco Rodríguez y Gaby Azcuy.

También con el apoyo de la fundación comisarié la exposición Hay alguna explicación inocente? de la artista Lorena Gutiérrez en el año 2023 y de la cual salió su posterior libro Desnudando el poder que se presentó en Madrid en el año 2024.

Con el apoyo también de TCAG pudimos inaugurar durante el festival PhotoEspaña en su edición de 2023 la exposición personal de la artista queridísima Alicia Rodríguez Alvisa, A Long Hug, en el Espacio Copiloto del Estudio René Francisco en Carabanchel, aquí también en Madrid.

Tuve además la suerte de que confiaran en mí para escribir el texto y “Ni vara, ni raíz. Arte cubano bajo el hechizo de la palma" a propósito de la Colección Rice que se publicó en el año 2024 en la revista Artishock.

Estoy segura de qué seguiremos colaborando en el futuro yo me siento muy feliz y estoy muy agradecida de formar parte de una iniciativa tan importante que cree y que apuesta por el arte cubano llevándolo con tanto rigor y con tanta pasión a la escena internacional.

Quiero dar las gracias a la familia Rice por esta labor de tantísimos años y especialmente a mi querida Gaby Azcuy y a David Horta por ser tan increíbles profesionales, por tender tantos puentes entre artistas, curadores, instituciones. Pienso que somos muchos los profesionales cubanos del arte y la cultura que hemos tenido la suerte de contar con el apoyo de TCAG. Toda la labor, todo el trabajo que hacen ha sido fundamental para el desarrollo de nuestras trayectorias profesionales. Así que con mucho cariño les deseo felices 10 años y seguramente nos seguiremos viendo, un abrazo a todos.

Hello to the entire team at The Cuban Arts Group (TCAG). Happy 10th anniversary! Thank you so much for the valuable work you’ve been carrying out over this past decade. I wish you many more years of giving visibility to and supporting Cuban art and artists, both on and off the island. I truly believe that the work you do is essential for the development of countless artistic careers.

In my case, I’ve had the good fortune and honor of collaborating with you on several projects — among them, the organization and presentation of the book Hybrid of a Chrysler. A Provocation to Fly by Cuban artist Esterio Segura, which we launched at La Fábrica, Madrid, in 2022, alongside the incredible professionals Suset Sánchez, René Francisco Rodríguez, and Gaby Azcuy.

With your support, I also curated the exhibition Hay alguna explicación inocente?  by artist Lorena Gutiérrez in 2023, which later resulted in her book Desnudando el poder, presented in Madrid in 2024.

Thanks again to TCAG’s support, we were able to inaugurate the solo exhibition A Long Hug by the beloved artist Alicia Rodríguez Alvisa during the 2023 edition of PhotoEspaña, at Espacio Copiloto in the René Francisco Studio in Carabanchel, Madrid.

I was also fortunate that you trusted me to write the essay "Ni vara, ni raíz. Arte Cubano bajo el hechizo de la palma," about the Rice Collection, published in 2024 in Artishock magazine.

I am certain we will continue to collaborate in the future. I feel very happy and deeply grateful to be part of such an important initiative — one that believes in and champions Cuban art, bringing it to the international stage with such rigor and passion.

I would like to thank the Rice family for their many years of dedication, and especially my dear Gaby Azcuy and David Horta for being such outstanding professionals and for building so many bridges among artists, curators, and institutions. I believe that many of us Cuban art and culture professionals have been fortunate to count on TCAG’s support. All the work you do has been essential for the growth of our professional paths. With great affection, I wish you a happy 10th anniversary — and I’m sure we’ll keep seeing each other. A warm hug to you all.
